The Environment Indigenous Education Teaching and Learning
The College is blessed to provide its members with a beautiful yet modern campus that seeks to enhance and protect the natural landscape. Students are encouraged to respect, care for and protect the natural environment. In partnership with local organisations, the College community enthusiastically invests time and resources into the preservation and enhancement of the local environment.
Rivermount College is committed to building a community that shares a pride in its Australian heritage and embraces a future built on unity and harmony. Through the actions and attitudes of our community it is the vision of our founders that whilst we cannot change history, we can strive for reconciliation and commit to improving social justice and equity for the Indigenous people, the original inhabitants of this country. Reconciliation between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous people of this nation is strengthened through the education of today’s youth and for this purpose the College strives to integrate and embed Indigenous education across the Kindy to Year 12 curriculum.
Rivermount College offers an innovative curriculum and a dynamic learning environment where students can realise their potential, strive for excellence and develop skills as life-long learners. The College is committed to providing academic rigour for those students aspiring towards University and post school education as well as offering a selection of Vocational Education courses and opportunities. School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships are individually designed to suit student needs.
Practical Christianity Wellbeing Cocurricular
Central to the College Mission is its Christian purpose. Rivermount College provides a non-denominational and inclusive Christian community that welcomes families from varying walks of life and from an array of religious affiliations. It is the aim of the College to develop in students a genuine and practical Christian worldview and faith that equips them to live authentic Christian lives. The College aims to be an extension of the home to assist parents in giving their children a well-balanced education and upbringing.
The wellbeing of students at Rivermount College is of paramount importance. The Pastoral Care program provides support and guidance to the student body by providing a framework of mutual respect, care, acceptance and trust. The responsibility for pastoral care lies with every member of staff to ensure that students develop positive interpersonal relationships with their peers and feel a sense of belonging and acceptance as a member of the school community. Within the Pastoral Care program, a House System has been established which forms the basis of sporting and cultural competition. All students are allocated to a House, and members of the one family are placed in the same House. Students remain within their allocated House for the duration of their enrolment at Rivermount College. Team building, co-operation, commitment and the development of House spirit are essential skills taught to students through their House membership. The Wellbeing focus provides a supportive framework for students that encourages effective learning and participation in College life, addresses and effectively manages student concerns and issues, encourages the development of positive self-concepts, promotes emotional well-being, enforces high standards of discipline and conduct and enhances motivation and school spirit.
Rivermount College offers an extensive and varied co-curricular program for Primary and Secondary students. Participation in the co-curricular activities of the College is strongly encouraged to balance and complement the academic program; to provide a range of learning and recreational experiences and to develop and nurture talents and interests. Students can participate in a myriad of Sports, Music, Drama, Dance, Outdoor Education, Debating, Public Speaking, Community activities, Clubs, special interest groups, camps and inter-house competitions. The College actively participates in a vibrant interschool sporting competition for students from Year 4 to Year 12.
