Our Year 4 students recently enjoyed an adventurous day, with beautiful weather, on their visit to Coochiemudlo Island. The cohort enjoyed walking along the beach and learning about the Indigenous history, culture and traditions of the island.
The students learnt that Coochiemudlo Island was important to the Aboriginal people in the early days before the arrival of early settlers. They would visit the island, often arriving by canoe, or wading out from Victoria Point during very low tides.
Students discovered native flora, as well as different types of shells and learned about the explorer, Matthew Flinders. The memorable visit concluded with a sandcastle competition before boarding the ferry and returning to school.
