Year 1 enjoy a Scientific Adventure through the Forest

Our Year 1 students recently enjoyed an explorative adventure at the Toohey Forest Environmental Education Centre. During their excursion, the students learnt about the importance of living and non-living organisms within the natural environment.

Our Year 1 Teachers gathered their students’ views about the excursion. Please enjoy some of their written reflections.

We learnt about bugs like gum hoppers. We went to the forest and caught lots of bugs. We saw butterflies, praying mantis, itchy caterpillars and termites.

Peyton, Star and Elodie

We learnt about bugs. Insects have six legs and arachnids have eight legs. We found ants, gum hoppers and termites.

Jack T, Hunter and Callan

We found cockroaches, ants, butterflies and stink bugs. Our favourite part was patting the animals and the snake and seeing the detective.

Indigo, Ayla and Amayah

My class went on a bus to Toohey Forest Environmental Education Centre. When I arrived I went into Toohey Forest and caught two spiders. One was big and one was small. I also saw a detective.

We looked at the microscope. We caught some insects. I caught a butterfly and a spider and a couple of termites. I liked the art that we did because the drawings were good.

We caught bugs and pet a snake. The snake got stuck in the man’s pocket and it was very funny. We looked under a microscope.

My favourite thing was the lizard and the snakes. The funniest was the lizard was running. The turtle was snappy.

First, we went on a bus to Toohey Forest. Next, we met silly Detective Search-a-lot and he got a job to find arachnids and bugs. Then, we looked for arachnids and bugs and we gave the bugs to Detective Search-a-lot. Finally, we got to do butterfly art.

We went to a classroom with tables and chairs. Then we found bugs and my favourite bug was the termite. Finally we gave the bugs to Detective Search-a-lot.

We saw Detective Search-a lot. Then, we went on a bug hunt. Finally, we looked at bugs and my favourite bug was the spider.

We met Detective Search-a-lot and we had to tell him about insects and arachnids. Then we went and found insects. Finally we got to listen to birds and it was wonderful. The End.
