How the Birds got their Colours

This week, the Year One classes have been looking at and discussing the book, How the Birds got their Colours. We have really enjoyed the opportunity to learn what some of the words in the book mean and why it is such an important Dreaming story to the Indigenous people. We have also been using this book to help us understand how to make our sentences more interesting by using conjunctions.

We discussed, in great detail, about how the parrot helped his friends and how the crow chose not to. Everyone agreed that we would like to be more like the parrot and be kind and helpful to our friends.

To enhance our learning, Miss Nicole Perry, our Indigenous Support Officer, showed us how to make birds out of clay. As you can see, they look amazing and we had lots of fun!
