Our Year 1 cohort recently enjoyed a morning incursion with the team from Ngutana-Lui Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Studies Centre to expand their knowledge about Indigenous traditions. During their sessions, students practiced their skills with boomerangs and spear throwing, told story through song and dance, and played Indigenous games. Our young learners also enjoyed seeing traditional dress and how to make toys out of coconut leaves.
The day concluded with a special performance by one of the talented Indigenous artists as he mimicked sounds of Australian animals played through a didgeridoo.
The incursion offered a unique opportunity for our students to learn about the rich history, traditions, and values of Australia's first inhabitants. It also allowed them to develop a deeper appreciation and respect for the traditional owners of the land.
