Duke of Edinburgh Award: Silver/Gold Practice Journey

Gold and Silver candidates from the College’s Duke of Edinburgh Award program recently swung into action before the start of Term 1 with thirteen students enduring soaring temperatures and torrential rain to complete a practice journey, using canoes as their preferred mode of transport.

Over several exciting days, the group discovered new canoeing skills and took part in a number of team building challenges. The Nicolson Memorial Pool provided the perfect backdrop for a series of practice rescue drills to help students gain confidence in their boats. The group also visited Wivenhoe Dam, Hinze Dam, and the Albert River to enhance their paddling skills. These candidates will now undertake their qualifying journey on the Noosa River from 3 to 6 May.
