Our Year 1 cohort commenced Term 4 with an engaging morning of activities that were delivered by the Ngutana-Lui Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Studies Centre. During the day, the students practiced their skills with boomerangs and played some Indigenous games. They also enjoyed learning about traditional dress and crafted wristbands from materials that mimicked how Indigenous people cleverly use nature to create accessories.
The students finished the day with song and dance before listening to the traditional story ‘How the birds got their colours’.
The incursion offered a unique opportunity for our students to learn about the rich history, traditions, and values of Australia's first inhabitants. It also allowed them to develop a deeper appreciation and respect for the traditional owners of the land.
