Rivermount College has become renowned as the home of cross country for schools located in the Gold Coast and wider Brisbane region. The course offers competitors a breathtaking backdrop set against distant mountains, a challenging course complete with gullies and hills running adjacent to the beautiful Albert River, excellent viewing points and the provision of outstanding catering and hospitality facilities.
The 2022 Cross Country Season saw the College play host to an array of competitions from interschool events to the pinnacle of the sport, the Queensland School Sport State Championships. Despite wet weather impacting several events, the season was a wonderful success for the competitions that proceeded. The rainy weather produced a memorable challenge for runners with increased muddy patches, new water features and softer ground conditions.
Highlights of the season included the South Coast Regional Championships and the QGSSA event along with the State Championships. Attendance at these events ranged from 1500 to over 3000 competitors and visitors.
It was an epic season that tested our resilience, but also demonstrated how versatile we can be as a community. To cap it all off our students had the privilege of competing on home turf more often this year than in any other. In what was an honour for the College, Year 9 student Caiden MacFarlane emerged as a State Champion and Year 4 student Henry Chapman produced a credible 4th place position. Henry Chapman went onto the National Cross Country Championships in Adelaide placing 11th out of 45 competitors.
